Hi, I’m Jose Barrera, founder of Barrera Family Loft.

My story with racing pigeons started long before Barrera Family Loft ever became a business or a brand. I grew up around pigeons because of my father, and from a young age, the loft was where I wanted to be. I could spend hours in the backyard watching, handling, and learning about the birds. My mom practically had to drag me away from them just to get me to do my homework.

​

As I got older, that childhood passion only became stronger. I wanted to understand what made a great racing pigeon, compete at a higher level, and eventually build a family of birds that I could truly call my own.

Over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to acquire quality bloodlines, breed championproducing pigeons, compete across the country, and begin developing my own family of birds, including Barrera’s Grizzles. But some of my proudest moments haven’t just come from winning myself. They’ve come from watching pigeons I bred succeed for other people.

The first time one of my partners and I won with a bird I bred, it changed the way I looked at everything. Seeing someone else now have a champion in their loft that started right here at Barrera Family Loft was one of the best feelings I’ve experienced in this sport. That’s a big reason why I offer select birds today. I want to see these bloodlines go into other lofts, produce, compete, and hopefully create those same unforgettable moments for other fanciers.

At the same time, I’ve always loved sharing my birds and my journey through social media. What started as simply making content about something I love has grown into a community of people from all over who follow the birds, the races, the wins, the losses, and everything that happens along the way.

That same vision led me to create our racing pigeon merchandise and the phrase that represents everything I’m building:
Winners Don’t Wing It.

​

To me, that means success doesn’t happen by accident. Whether it’s pigeons, business, or life, you have to put in the work, stay consistent, learn from your losses, and keep getting better.

​

My goal is bigger than just building Barrera Family Loft. I want to help grow the racing pigeon community, introduce more people to this incredible sport, and leave my own mark on it for the next generation.

​

I’m still building. I’m still learning. And I’m still chasing the next win.

​
